Getting Started

PayUp is a web application designed for sports clubs to manage club fines, membership fees, and referee fees, track payments, and keep your club's finances organised — all in one place.

PayUp is built for any sports team that runs a payments system — football, rugby, cricket, hockey, and more. Whether you're a club admin who needs to track who owes what, or a player who wants to see your payments and pay them online, PayUp has you covered.

• Multiple teams per club — Run 1st team, reserves, youth, or mixed squads side by side, with players able to belong to more than one team and per-team balance breakdowns.
• Fees vs. fines — Keep recurring membership fees separate from club fines in your totals.
• Online payments — Let players pay by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, or Klarna directly through the app.
• Games & seasons — Log fixtures, link payments to specific games, and organise everything by season.
• Expenses — Track club spending against your payments pot so you always know your balance.
• Multi-club support — Players and admins can belong to multiple clubs and switch between them.
• Real-time updates — Everything syncs instantly. No refreshing needed.
• Works on any device — Fully responsive and installable as a PWA on your phone.

You can create a PayUp account using your email address or by signing in with a third-party provider such as Google or Microsoft.

1. Go to the PayUp website and click Get Started.
2. Enter your first name, last name, email address, and choose a password.
3. Click Create Account.
4. Check your inbox for a verification email and click the link to verify your address.
5. Once verified, you'll be able to create or join a club.

If you don't see the verification email, check your spam/junk folder. You can also resend it from the verification page.

PayUp supports signing in with third-party providers such as Google and Microsoft.

1. Click Get Started and then choose your preferred sign-in provider (e.g. Sign in with Google or Sign in with Microsoft).
2. Select your account. Your name and email will be filled in automatically.
3. You may be asked to complete your profile (phone number) on first sign-in.

If your club is already on PayUp, there are several ways to join it.

1. Ask your club admin for the Club ID (found in the club's Settings page).
2. When you register or from the club selection screen, enter the Club ID.
3. PayUp will attempt to match you to an existing player record using your email, phone number, or name.
4. Once matched (or added), you'll have access to your club's dashboard.

Your admin can share a club invite link from Settings → Members. This link looks like payupapp.co.uk/join/your-club-name.

1. Click the invite link shared by your club admin.
2. You'll be taken to the registration page with the club pre-filled.
3. Create your account (or sign in if you already have one).
4. You'll be automatically added to the club.

Your admin can also invite you directly by email from Settings → Members → Invite Member. You'll receive an email with a link to register. When you sign up through the invite link, you'll be automatically added to the club with the role your admin assigned.

When you join, PayUp tries to link your account to an existing player record. It checks, in order:

1. Email address (case-insensitive match) — highest priority
2. Phone number (UK-normalised) — second priority
3. Exact name match — used only if you weren't invited by an admin

If a match is found, your account is automatically linked to that player, and all existing payments will appear on your dashboard.

If your club isn't on PayUp yet, you can create one in minutes. You can also create additional clubs if you're already a member of one — just use the Club Switcher in the sidebar and select Create Club.

1. After signing up and verifying your email, click Create Club.
2. Enter your club name. PayUp will generate a unique slug for your club.
3. You'll be guided through the setup wizard where you can:
   • Add teams (e.g. "1st Team", "Reserves")
   • Create your first season
   • Set up payment types with default amounts
   • Add your players
4. As the creator, you'll be the Owner of the club — the highest permission level.

When you create a club, PayUp automatically generates:

• A default team ("1st Team")
• A default season based on the current date (e.g. "2025/26")

You can rename, edit, or add more teams and seasons later in Settings.

PayUp uses a sidebar-based layout on desktop and a collapsible menu on mobile.

The sidebar contains links to all key areas:

• Dashboard — Your home page with balance overview and quick actions.
• Games — View and manage fixtures.
• Players — See all players and their payment details.
• Payments — View all club payments with filters.
• Expenses — Track club spending (admin only).
• Settings — Manage club configuration (super admin only).
• Account — Update your personal details.

At the top of the sidebar you'll find:

• Club Switcher — If you belong to multiple clubs, use this to switch between them.
• Season Selector — Switch between seasons to view historical data. The active season is selected by default.
• Team Selector — For clubs with more than one team, filter the whole app down to a single squad, or view "All Teams" combined.

On mobile devices, tap the hamburger menu (☰) in the top-left corner to open the navigation drawer. All the same options are available.

First-time users will see an interactive tour highlighting the key areas of the app. You can restart the tour from your Account page at any time.

PayUp is a Progressive Web App (PWA), which means you can install it on your phone for quick access — just like a native app.

1. Open PayUp in Safari.
2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow).
3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
4. Tap Add to confirm.

1. Open PayUp in Chrome.
2. You may see an Install banner automatically. If so, tap it.
3. Otherwise, tap the three-dot menu (⋮) and select Add to Home screen or Install app.
